Funny how a simple turn of phrase can change our experience. If we believe we are wearing a burden then we start to feel this energetically and eventually it is felt emotionally too. It wears you down and it drains you.
Reframe and believe the activities you are undertaking and the experiences you are creating mean you wear the joy……and you feel significant, you feel energized and you feel “light”! What a difference a few words can make!
Let’s be real though – this shift may sound simple and yet in many circumstances it can be monumental and require a major reframe. Such a change in thinking requires great personal courage and at times selflessness – not something us humans are always good at.
Sometimes it is far easier and more natural to bear the burden – we can blame, play victim and wallow. Much harder to take responsibility, to reframe, to rethink and own our stuff! Or even harder to actually acknowledge the situation was beyond our control and we would feel so much better if we could step away from playing victim and bearing the burden. Rather accept it happened and wear the joy about the learning it created and the opportunities you managed to realize.
I have consciously decided to rise above the easy choice of bearing the burden – and feeling sorry for myself or feeling guilty for what has eventuated – and instead decided to wear the joy; some tough recent events have certainly tested my resolve and as my daughter said to me the other day …OK enough with the life lessons!! None of this is easy, it is not fun and yet it ultimately feels liberating when you truly embrace it. Liberate yourself by refusing to bear the burden and instead wear the joy!
