Mindful listening is a gift to you as the listener and to the person you “really” listen to – with the intent of understanding them. I am reading a book recommended by a dear client – “The Zen of Listening” and it is reframing my thinking from listening as a skill to be learnt to a mindset and attitude you adopt.
The more I reflect on this challenge the more I totally agree with the concept. In our 24/7 busy-ness filled with distractions it is our attitude that prevents or encourages us to be truly present and mindful when listening. Fake listening skills can be mimicked – they don’t mean I am truly listening.
I have previously blogged a few times on the art of listening but I am incredibly thankful for the recommendation and this new perception that I have been challenged to adopt as I read the book. I look forward to sharing more on mindful listening with you as I explore further!
