Alarmingly too many organisational cultures support this mantra of ‘go along to get along’.
Too many people ‘go along’ because they fear being perceived as ‘rocking the boat’. You hear far too many senior leaders talking about the importance of ‘picking your battles’ – so when you are not doing this you are ‘going along’.
In my opinion this does not lead to high performance and certainly not a culture where you are encouraging honesty and transparency – therefore you cannot possibly hope to have people bringing their best each day. Let’s stop promoting the wearing of a facade and have everyone turning up and being REAL!
