Thanks to an anonymous nomination I undertook the process of completing my entry for the Telstra Businesswomens Award and it forced me to reflect and dig deep on my achievements and my challenges.
I don’t believe most of us do this often enough – it is a very cathartic and uplifting experience and at times a completely overwhelming experience. It is the overwhelming bit that keeps us away …… or maybe we don’t do it because we feel selfish and maybe because we really don’t want to “look”!!
I encourage you to DO IT – feel excited, frustrated, exhilarated and even cry – it is good for the soul. Try presenting your “entry” to your family and let them ” experience ” your achievements. In fact your greatest achievements are them, aren’t they?
Then take time to receive their feedback…….and share how you feel.
So why don’t we do this?
– don’t want to feel vulnerable
– don’t take time to complete the entry
– feels far too self centred (the Telstra entry instructions about using “I” language had me feeling far too self centred and yet when one of my team members read it, and I warned her about the Telstra “rules” her comment was that she hadn’t noticed I had used too much “I” language……how curious!!)
– feel embarrassed or ashamed?
What is your excuse?
I am going to share my entry with my family – will let you know how I go!
