Winston Churchill said: “Courage is what it takes to stand up and speak; courage is also what it takes to sit down and listen”.
How very true and how very hard to do. Knowing when to speak and when to listen requires strong wisdom and judgement courage to speak and listen gained through years of experience and of course years of debriefing.
Speaking up can trigger our fears – lack of control, unsafe, insecurity – and we need to fight these defensive habits to create a brighter future.
Knowing when to sit down and listen is also an art and requires being vulnerable….being prepared to stop taking control!
