Sitting in the lounge area of a NZ hotel after facilitating workshops with a wonderful client I was reflecting on the last two days when a song came on that drew my attention. It is a song I have always loved (from a bop along and dance perspective, and a sing out loud and proud perspective as I can actually  recall a high percentage of the words) and as I sat there on my own I found myself being really present with the words/lyrics. It would have felt a little awkward to either dance or sing along as I sat in the corner of the lounge on my own so I practised what I had been exploring with participants over the last couple of days…….being present!

It is the famous New Radicals song that was ruined (as far as I am concerned) when it became the Mazda theme song on television advertisements. And I found myself saying YES……YES…as I was really present with the lyrics – we need so much more of this – let’s make it an infectious disease! So I dragged out my iPad and started tapping away – so enjoy my musings and connections.

They sing about the “Dreamers Disease” and tell us loudly to:
“don’t let go…….you’ve got the music in you; and don’t give up ……..you’ve got a reason to live.”

They also state that you have one last laugh – that this world is going to pull through and you’ll be OK if you just follow your heart.

As a listener we are repeatedly reminded that we only get what we give and are encouraged not to let go!

What amazing words of enCOURAGEment from the New Radicals – so I invite you to put them into practice each day by holding yourself to account to…………

  • don’t let go of your dreams and aspirations…..you are an awesome person
  • don’t give up on being “the best version of you” …..the awesome you – the world needs this version of you
  • don’t forget to smile and laugh because you will pull through and bring others with you
  • just follow your heart (have the courage to do this – don’t let fear get in your way any longer)
  • remember you get what you give…………..this is really potent at a very deep level if you allow your mind, heart and soul to go there (for example: people talk about not trusting too much as others will take advantage….so when you “give” this message by not fully trusting and fully disclosing everything with the intent of securing a brilliant outcome then ……you receive this lack of trust back in spades and the outcome is compromised)
  • don’t let go……of who you are, who you want to be and your vision of how the world can look in the future.

Thank you New Radicals for the lyrics that have brought a richness to our lives as we are inspired to be courageous leaders of self, others and the business.

Would love to hear your experiences of putting this into practice – I’ll keep you updated on how I go!!
