“Be exceptionally kind to others as you do not know what they are handling and dealing with in their life”
A participant shared this with me as we stood around debriefing what they had learned from the day. This participant had started the day with a reasonable degree of cynicism coupled with sarcasm and as we progressed through our day of learning I noticed his armour starting to fall off. In my experience many business people use cynicism and sarcasm to protect themselves from being real and wear it as their protective armour.
At a late stage during the day I unleashed my courage at a very deep level and stepped into a conversation to challenge him and the judgments he was espousing with a colleague. We had a brilliant conversation – he listened, engaged and received the message the way it was intended. Then at the end of the day he shared this quote with everyone – and it stopped us all dead in our tracks!! I don’t think we expected such a deep thought from this larrikin who liked to deflect with humour. I know I was certainly “rocked and delighted”.
As he departed the workshop he made a point of personally thanking me for reminding him of the importance of kindness.
These are the days I “live for” in my business life – where you make a difference and you take people back to their basic human roots. Imagine ………as John Lennon sang to us so eloquently – a world where we live in peace and choose to be KIND to each other.
Be kind and choose to drop the judgement – this transfer of energy WILL make a difference for you and for others. It will release you from the weight of your armour and it will encourage the other person to their greatness.
